Due to changes in American Jewish-Israeli relations, the American Jewish Committee (AJC) has published a policy statement describing its stance on this relationship. This document is a comprehensive manifesto delineating principles the AJC believes should govern the relationship, positions AJC advocates, and programs AJC is prepared to undertake. The AJC calls for maintaining the present agenda of political and economic support of Israel, while also calling for change in our relationship, especially with respect to Jewish continuity. Particularly noteworthy is explicit AJC support, for the first time in its history, of the concept of immigration (aliya) to Israel, and its call for broader religious pluralism within the Jewish State. AJC also cautions against changes in the Law of Return, especially if done without prior consultation with American Jewish organizations and representatives.
