Project "Hebrew"

Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), April 1995

This editorial introduces the subject of Hebrew education, which is developed further in this issue of AVAR ve'ATID. The editors acknowledge that the teaching of Hebrew in the Diaspora and in Israel are quite different, and that the proper motivation for this in the Diaspora must be found. They point to this issue's reliance on a proper definition of Jewish identity, and its crucial role in retaining a Jewish nationalism and the forming of basic Jewish value-concepts.
