There is no question whatever that religious and spiritual values have contributed immeasurably to human progress from barbarism to civilization. The United States, certainly, has been profoundly influenced for the better by Jewish and Christian moral and ethical values. Unlike countries with established churches, however, many religions have thrived in pluralistic America, hand in hand with our longstanding tradition of separation of church and state, which has served as a bulwark of religious liberty for all.
