Revitalizing the Voluntary Sector in the Fight Against Bias

By Irving M. Levine

American Jewish Committee (AJC), February 1988

The Governor's Task Force on Bias-Related Violence appointed by Governor Cuomo following the violent incident at Howard Beach in December 1986 has an historic opportunity to review the status of anti-bias forces and how they operate in both the public and private sectors. This paper will seek to lay out some background on the private voluntary sector in the field of intergroup relations and will recommend ways that the public sector can help stimulate a revived effort in the voluntary agencies and organizations.
