Iran Sees New Opportunity for Regional Domination Despite Turkish Competition

By Michael Segall

Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA), 2011

As the Arab powers become increasingly weak, Iran amplifies its anti-Western rhetoric, particularly regarding Zionism. Segall argues that supporting the changes and the political turmoil in the Arab world has allowed Iran to unobtrusively serve its own interests. However, Iran is competing with Turkey to take charge of the changes occurring in the Muslim world. Despite differing approaches, both Turkey and Iran share the same goal, to foster anti-Israeli sentiment.
