Halting Iran's Nuclear Weapons Program: Iranian Vulnerabilities and Western Policy Options

By Yossi Kuperwasser

Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA), July 2007

Despite Iran's oil and gas resources, it remains an economically vulnerable nation. The United States and other Western nations have the economic ability to put a stop to Iran's nuclear program development, but have so far failed to seriously implement economic sanctions against Iran. The Iranian regime must be forced to choose between the expansion of the program or the survival of the Islamic Revolution. To successfully halt Iran's advances in nuclear programming, Western nations must supplement their economic sanctions with the threat of military force against Iran.
