Blog Post: Compromising on the Heavenly Jerusalem

By Leonard Fein

Americans for Peace Now, December 2006

The author writes of the tension of Israel, larger then the daily conflicts - a meta-question about Israel's identity. Was the hope and aspiration of the Zionist mission too high? Perhaps the Jews ought to forsake the idea of the heavenly Jerusalem for improving the earthly one, waive messianic salvation for piecemeal political reforms. Perhaps there are still ways to unite that grand dream and the reality of the situation.
