A Wooden Welcome to Russian Jews

By Leonard Fein

Moment Magazine, October 1975

Leonard Fein chastises the hypocrisy of middle and upper class American Jews and their double standard towards Soviet emigres. Despite overwhelming financial support and political clout to help Soviet Jews leave Russia, many American Jews balk at these Russian Jews coming to America to settle. Instead Fein tells his readers to welcome our cousins, make room for them, understand them, look forward to the day when they will, as has every wave of immigration in the past, enrich the lives of our communities with new perceptions and new ways.
