Haganat Hayahadut Bim'dinat Yisrael: Some Preliminary Considerations

By Leonard Fein

July 1996

Leonard Fein's memo discusses the battle defending multiple denominations of Judaism in Israel. The difficulty of promoting Reform Judaism in Israel is emphasized by the fact that the politically powerful Orthodox Jews consider “pluralism” anathema. Despite this challenge, Fein believes that promoting Reform Judaism is necessary and possible. Jews must be willing to understand the connections between Orthodox and Reform without excusing the excesses of the Orthodox.
