Marrakech Expressions

By Leonard Fein

Forward Association, 2003

Marrakech, is a city that exists both inside and outside the ravages and violence of the modern era. A beautiful fusion of Spanish and Arabic architecture, Marrakech is a riot of mosaics and stonework, capped off by a forest of minarets, calling the faithful to their daily prayers. A restored Jewish cemetery chronicles the role of Jews who fled the Inquisition in neighboring Spain and contributed to this remarkable city. Yet the harsh reality of the modern world intrudes daily, as references to the May 16th terrorist attacks are inescapable and faraway terrorism assaults this nation and it's good natured calm.
