The Sinking Ship And a Swift Boat

By Leonard Fein

Forward Association, 2004

The farce of the swift boat attacks on John Kerry is eclipsed only by their audacity. As we stumble forward in Iraq, a man who spent the Vietnam War as an absentee jokester in the Air National Guard is improbably winning the debate on National Security over the decorated veteran and then outspoken opponent of US interventionism. The truths John Kerry spoke in 1971 may torpedo his candidacy in 2004. Consider: Will young men and women who know and say that this current war is wrong, find that 30 years from now, there is a political price to be paid for having spoken the truth?
