Even Without Partners We Must Work Together

By Leonard Fein

Forward Association, 2007

Of course we want peace. But we cannot have peace without a partner, and we have no partner.'' A common refrain on both sides of the security fence. Both sides have plausible arguments that the other side doesn't want real peace, negotiated peace, with real concessions on both sides. But Hamas' actions in Gaza open a window for creating real partners for peace. Someone - Olmert, Abbas, even Bush, must have the audacity and the imagination to squeeze through this window, and then to reach back to the others and help pull them through. Together - unilateralism will not do - they can move toward peace.
