No Time Nor Patience for Cynicism

By Leonard Fein

Forward Association, 2008

The Olympics are a unique opportunity, a time that allows for a naivete, a suspension of cynicism of nationalism and national pride. Plainly, we cannot (nor ought we) pretend that all that's happened in the name of nationalism hasn't happened, that we can simply shed the ugliness and neglect the sinister. Our eyes have seen the worst there is, have stared into the abyss; we've known tragedy, and will again. But no time nor patience for cynicism; now, eyes wide open, it is time to build.
