The fighters of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, named and unnamed, are surely heroes, but another hero comes to mind when remembering that darkness, Janusz Korczak. The director of the ghetto orphanage, Korczak refused his freedom and walked hand in hand with his children from the orphanage to the train tracks, stood with them on the trains, and was gassed with them at Treblinka. A hero of the highest order. "May the memory of the righteous be for a blessing.
