A Speech Chasing a Dream

By Leonard Fein

Forward Association, 2011

President Obama's State of the Union was a powerful speech, regardless of the immediate narrative of the media commentators. It was an appropriate amalgam of the mystical and the statistical, a coherent framework for organizing Washington's work. And while it was not a perfect speech, it carried with it a singular weight as it was delivered from the podium with the three most powerful men in America - Obama, Biden, and Boehner â€" all from truly humble beginnings. Perhaps the American dream is not quite dead yet.
