A Divine Society?

By Leonard Fein

Forward Association, 2011

Bibi Netanyahu has taken Palestine's ascension to full member of UNESCO as an opportunity to push the settlement project further ahead, just another step in his self-fulfilling "No-partner-for-peace" prophecy. Meanwhile, Jonathon Sacks, prominent American Rabbi talks of the idea of making Israel a 'divine society'. Humble enough words, but the kind of flaccid messianism that provides unfortunate encouragement to the settlers who see a divine imperative in the Judaizing of Jerusalem and the West Bank.
