Synagogues and the Jewish Renaissance

By Jonathan S. Woocher

Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE), 2002

The author describes an opportunity and a challenge he sees in modern Jewish life: there can be no Jewish renaissance in North America without the synagogue at its heart; but, synagogues alone cannot make a Jewish renaissance. He discusses some of the challenges facing synagogues in fulfilling this potential and provides a five-point plan for moving forward.
