Zoning Out and Tuning In To Education for Jewish Journeys

By Lawrence A. Hoffman

Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE), 2002

The author argues that the modern synagogue is 'zoned' as it compartmentalizes its various functions: prayer, education, counseling, etc. He describes Synagogue 2000, an initiative which seeks to integrate the various functions currently segregated within today's synagogue. He offers insights into the Synagogue 2000 methodology for transforming the institution into a holy community.
