World Jewish Population, 1978 Estimates

By Leon Shapiro

American Jewish Committee (AJC), 1980

There are no precise data on Jewish population in the various countries. The figures presented below represent the best possible estimates for 1978. They are based in local censuses, communal registration, and data obtained from a special inquiry conducted in 1977. We have also used estimates supplied by knowledgeable private local informants, mostly people involved in Jewish communal affairs.
