Anyone who has looked more closely at those who since the 19th century have claimed to be "Orthodox" has quickly discovered that what appears from the distance of unfamiliarity to be one face turns out upon closer examination to have a variety of aspects. In what follows, I shall try to sketch the various trends or faces of Orthodoxy.
