Excellence in Educational Youth Tourism: The Case of the Israel Experience Program

By Erik H. Cohen

EuroCHRIE: The Hospitality & Tourism Educators, October 2006

The author examines the Israel Experience program as a case study for fine-tuning the micro-dynamics of a successful educational tour. Participants' evaluations of the various educational and activity units ('modules') are analyzed and a Recreational-Cognitive Quality Index is developed. Modules receiving the highest ratings were simultaneously enjoyable, educational and had symbolic importance in terms of Jewish identity, the author finds.
