Intimacy, Modesty and Secrecy

By David S. Ribner

Jewish Communal Service Association of North America (JCSA), Spring 2008

The Orthodox Jewish community has developed a new functionary with regards to Jewish marriages: the madrich (advisor), who provides premarital information about taharat hamishpacha (laws of family purity), and more recently, advice on issues of intimacy, communication, and sexuality. The author critically examines this role and offers suggestions and alternatives.
