Redesigning the Communities of the New Century: The Jewish Vision and Values in a Changing Scenario: Geiger

By Paulo Geiger

JDC International Centre for Community Development, January 10, 2002

In a speech given at the Latin American Conference for Jewish Lay and Professional Leadership held in 2001, Paulo Geiger asserts that modern Jewish institutions must adapt to a new model of Jewish community. With the existence of the state of Israel, a solid Jewish community that is territorially recognized has become a reality. With this comes a new model of community, in which Jewish values must adapt to a combination of a transitory model of dispersion and a tangible national state center.
