NJPS, 2000-01, By the Numbers

By Ira M. Sheskin

Forward Association, September 26, 2003

The author discusses the controversy behind the 1990 National Jewish Population which declared that 52% of the Jews who married between 1985 to 1990 married non-Jews. Many argued that the true percentage was 43%, however, the author asserts that because one's own consideration of their religious denomination varies on a situational basis, neither statistic can ever be completely precise.
