The Role of Women in Jewish Religious Life

American Jewish Committee (AJC), June 1982

In June of 1982, this conference, held by the Jewish Communal Affairs Department of the American Jewish Committee, featured a number of prominent scholars and researchers and prompted an extensive examination on the importance of women in Jewish religious life. It included discussion regarding the lack of women theologians and the refusal to allow women to access the Seminary's rabbinical training. Furthermore, there was a call for the creation of a task force in order to deal with women's issues in a progressive manner. Finally, participants discussed at length future roles for women.
