Fact and Opinion

By Samuel Spiegler

Jewish Communal Service Association of North America (JCSA), National Conference of Jewish Communal Service, Fall 1971

This article presents in brief a miscellaneous sample of happenings in Jewish communities around the world. These include a youth program in Des Moines, the development of Jewish Studies and Yiddish courses in universities around the country, a review of the level of anti-Semitism among Christian clergy, an announcement about the incipient ordination of the first woman rabbi, and several reports about life in Israel related to social work, poverty, and business. Two letters to the editor deal with workers' right to strike (or lack thereof) and the relationship between an agency board and its executive. Finally, David Weiss contributes a five-part poem entitled By the Waters of the St. Lawrence.
