Beyond the Egalitarian Get

By Leah Richman

Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association (RRA), Reconstructionist Rabbinical College (RRC), Spring 2000

This article discusses the Reconstructionist Egalitarian Get (Jewish divorce document), arguing that it needs to be revised. The author discusses problems with the Get, such as the fact that the words of the Get do not reflect the values and actions of those who use it and that the consent form is vague in its wording. She suggests ways to fix these problems, addressing both traditional and egalitarian concerns.
