Meeting of the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundation Commission, held in Chicago, May 7, 1928

B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundations Commission, Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, May 1928

Professionals share their experiences with college students through their work with the five-year-old organization, Hillel. Some believe that Hillel should focus on religious services, leaving social programming up to fraternities and sororities while others believe that social programming is crucial to Hillel's success. All seem to agree that engaging speakers are critical; for example, a series of talks about sex drew consistent attendance for many weeks. As well, all participants acknowledge the importance of appropriate space, for their Orthodox Friday night and Saturday morning services as well as Reform Sunday services are negatively impacted by inaccessible, stark, and noisy spaces.
