The Institution for the Aged of the Future

By Herbert Shore

Jewish Communal Service Association of North America (JCSA), National Conference of Jewish Communal Service, Summer 1966

The author synthesizes and summarizes responses to a survey of thirty American experts in the field of institutional geriatric care asking: "What will the institution of the future (the next generation) be like?" Reponses were broad, numerous and diverse, although agreement prevailed on certain matters. The author presents consensus views on the future profiles of the resident, the institution, policies and procedures, length of stay, sectarianism, design, and overall philosophy.
