Trends for the Future

By Samuel A. Goldsmith

Jewish Communal Service Association of North America (JCSA), National Conference of Jewish Social Welfare, September 1949

True to its title, this article provides a broad overview of potential future trends in Jewish communal services, yet it begins with an analysis of the theoretical shift in the social welfare work of the American people generally and the Jewish community specifically, in which there has been an increased appreciation of social responsibilities on the part of all people. Within this framework, Goldsmith discusses the future of private philanthropy, the Jewish hospital, Jewish vocational services, the Jewish Community Center (JCC), and the national agencies, among many other topics.
