The author outlines the life of Dr. Solomon Schechter, beginning with Schechter's early life and proceeding through his education, scholarly influences, settlement in England, publications, scholarly accomplishments, his arrival in America to lead the Jewish Theological Seminary, his work on the Cairo Genizah, and his many other contributions to the field of Judaic studies. The author further describes Dr. Schechter's vision of traditional Judaism, a vision not yet then known as the Conservative movement, and described by Schechter himself with the term "Orthodox".
