From Martin Werber

By Martin Werber

Jewish Family & Life (JFL Media), February 2006

As the Conservative movementâ??s Jewish Theological Seminary of America searches for a new chancellor, the author writes a letter urging him or her to provide a clear, unambiguous understanding of what it means to be a committed Conservative Jew. The author posits that the movement started out as a marriage of convenience between the seminary and a laity. If the seminary is to maintain its base of support, he argues, it is going to have to find a more persuasive reason to continue the partnership.
