Letter to President Bush: A True Democracy

By Carol Shalita-Smokler

Jewish Family & Life (JFL Media), January 2005

In a letter to Bush on the eve of his new term, the author describes her experience delivering absentee ballots to the housebound elderly in South Palm Beach County during the 2004 election. She contends that Bush's administration hopes to bring democracy and the electoral process to the Middle East and to reduce terrorism, but we can't export democracy when we fail to hold fully democratic, transparent and voter-friendly elections at home.
