Tzedakah in a Global Community

By Jeffrey D. Sachs

Jewish Family & Life (JFL Media), January 2006

The author discusses the Jewish commitment to charity and argues that as the world changes, so too must our response to this profound commandment. The author urges a globalization of our tzedakah; given today's wealth, scientific expertise, and global reach, we are the first generation that can end extreme poverty. We can and should help usher in an era of widening prosperity and peace.
