Minister of Defense

By Mishael Zion

Jewish Family & Life (JFL Media), May 2008

Zion, writing as if he were the Israeli minister of defense, shares his vision for the ministry, one that includes a process of tzimtzum (contraction). Zion argues that the Israeli army should not and cannot serve as the melting pot for Israeli society; rather, he calls on Israel to build, enrich and recreate Jewish and Israeli ritual and culture that is not centered on threats but on possibilities.
