South African Jewry: A Glimpse Into the Future

By Milton Shain

Jewish Family & Life (JFL Media), November 2003

The author asserts that as South Africa moves towards its first decade of democratic rule, the health and state of its Jewish community presents a complex picture. Although the community is diminishing in size, Jewish comfort and cohesion are strong. He concludes that the future of South African Jewry will depend on the degree of emigration, but to date, there is good cause for optimism.
