Finding Holy Moments on the Pulpit

By Joanna Samuels

Jewish Family & Life (JFL Media), September 2007

Prompted by a question from a congregant, the author, a pulpit rabbi, reflects on what she thinks about as she leads services for her congregation. She considers how to pray with intention while pushing aside the responsibilities of leading a community in prayer. She concludes that questions, prayers, and frustrations about the narrative of congregants' lives are part of what she holds in her heart as she stands before God.
