OU Asks Senators to Protect Traditional Definition of Marriage

By Nathan J. Diament, Harvey Blitz, Tzvi H. Weinreb

Orthodox Union (OU), September 3, 2003

In this open letter to Sen. John Cornyn, chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution, the OU requests that the Senate pass laws to uphold the traditional definition of marriage. The OU points to the traditional interpretation of kiddushinâ?"the union of one man and one womanâ?"and their belief that one man/one woman marriages act as the only healthy basis of family, as the rearing of children requires two opposite sex parents. The letter is signed by Harvey Blitz, Rabbi Tzvi H. Weinreb and Nathan J. Diament.
