By Judy Bolton-Fasman

Jewish Family & Life (JFL Media), June 1999

This is a review of Early Sorrows by Danilo Kis. Kis draws upon his Jewish Yugoslavian background to create an autobiographical work of fiction examining the relationship between father and son in Yugoslavia during World War II. Twenty years after the war, the son, having left, returns to Yugoslavia, and this experience examines the concept of memory.
