B'riyah--A Women's Liberation Movement

By Paula Hyman

Eugene Borowitz, March 17, 1978

Writing tongue-in-cheek as part of this satirical Purim parody issue on the theme of health and (over-) eating, the author argues that Jewish feminists ought to support the campaign of the fictional Jewish group Beriyah, which (fictionally) calls for a new standard of kashrut which would declare all food over 1800 calories per day to be unkosher. After all, declares the author, Jewish women would have less cooking to do.
